New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) officials announced an overnight ramp closure on Route 1 southbound as the Milltown Road/North Main Street/County Route 606 Bridge deck reconstruction project advances in North Brunswick.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, Sept. 10, until 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, DOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, is scheduled to close the ramp from Route 1 southbound to Milltown Road southbound/North Main Street/Route 606.

This closure will allow the contractor to prepare for a traffic shift.

Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour which will be in place.

By 7 a.m. Sept. 11, traffic on Milltown Road will be shifted onto the newly-reconstructed northern bridge, with one lane in each direction.

This will allow the contractor to demolish and reconstruct the southern bridge.

The $8.7 million federally-funded Milltown Road/North Main Street/Route 606 Bridge over Route 1 project will replace the existing bridge deck, which is in poor condition.

The project is being constructed in stages to minimize impact to traffic.

In addition to replacing the bridge deck, the project will demolish and reconstruct the abutments, pier, and install new overhead sign structures.

The project is expected to be completed by late summer 2022.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists should check DOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information, and for DOT news follow Twitter @NewJerseyDOT or the NJDOT Facebook page.
