A rash of car thefts that occurred throughout Princeton during the first week of September is under investigation by the Princeton Police Department.
The first incident occurred on Sept. 3, when a thief broke into a locked 2020 Subaru Outback that was parked on Nassau Street and managed to drive off with it, according to police. It is not known how the thief was able to start the engine.
Another Subaru – this, a 2019 Outback – was reported stolen from its owner’s driveway on Westerly Road on Sept. 5. The owner had left the windows down and the spare ignition key in the console, according to police.
A thief also rummaged through a 2013 Mazda Miata convertible parked in the same driveway on Westerly Road, but nothing was reported missing.
Also on Sept. 5, police recovered a BMW X7 on The Great Road. The sport activity vehicle had been reported stolen from a driveway on Hunt Drive, and then abandoned on The Great Road.
A Pine Street resident told police on Sept. 8 that her 2017 BMW X5 had been stolen from her driveway. She had left the car unlocked, with the ignition key inside, according to reports.
And one street over from Pine Street, a Maple Street resident reported the theft of a 2009 Pontiac Vibe in front of the victim’s home Sept. 9. The car had been left unlocked, with the ignition key inside of it, police said.
