An investigation into a note found at the Slackwood Elementary School, which included a racial slur and a threatening statement, was found to have been left by juveniles who had been playing at the school playground, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
The juveniles found some paper and wrote a message that could have been construed as somewhat threatening, but it was never intended to create a threat, police said. The investigation revealed that there was no threat.
In a Sept. 12 letter to the Slackwood community, Superintendent of Schools Ross Kasun wrote that the school district immediately called police after the note was found over the Sept. 11-12 weekend.
Kasun wrote that although school district officials did not feel that the threat was credible, there would be an increased police presence throughout the day on Sept. 13 when students returned to school.
“We will continue to work with our students to create an environment that demonstrates and appreciation and acceptance of all cultures,” Kasun wrote in a Sept. 13 follow-up letter to parents.
