HOLMDEL – The members of the Holmdel Township Committee have voted to apply for funding from the Monmouth County Municipal Open Space Grant Program to help fund a local project.
During a meeting on Sept. 14, Mayor Greg Buontempo, Deputy Mayor Cathy Weber, Committeeman Prakash Santhana and Committeeman D.J. Luccarelli voted “yes” on a motion to pass a resolution authorizing an application be made to the county for funding.
Committeeman Tom Critelli was absent from the meeting.
According to a municipal document, the goal of the Township Committee is “to obtain county open space trust funds to fund the township’s project in creating a new largely off-road traffic, bikeway and pedestrian program to improve the connectivity, safety and accessibility of non-motorized and motorized networks and infrastructure. The proposed project will take place at 23 Roberts Road. The total cost of the project is $228,000. The township is requesting $114,000 in grant funding.”
According to the resolution, Monmouth County’s municipal open space program was created “to provide program grant funds in connection with municipal acquisition of lands for county park, recreation, conservation and farmland preservation purposes, as well as for county recreation and conservation development and maintenance purposes.”
Holmdel owns and controls the project site at 23 Roberts Road, according to the resolution, which states that municipal officials are “committed to this project and will provide the balance of funding necessary to complete the project … in the form of non-county matching funds.”
