Driver faces multiple charges in crash injuring four people

The driver of a pickup truck that was involved in a head-on collision with a sedan on Windsor-Perrineville Road, injuring four passengers in the car, is facing multiple charges in the Sept. 20 crash, according to the East Windsor Police Department.

A 41-year-old male from Trenton has been charged with four counts of assault by auto, driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to stay in his lane and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said Oct. 21.

The charges were filed following an extensive investigation, which included a request for a search warrant to obtain blood from the suspect, according to reports. A Mercer County Superior Court judge granted the search warrant, which allowed police to collect blood samples.

The blood samples were analyzed, and the toxicology report revealed that the man’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit, police said. He was subsequently charged with numerous motor vehicle violations.

The crash occurred when the driver’s 2005 Toyota Tundra pickup truck crossed the center line and crashed into the victims’ 2019 Nissan Sentra sedan. He was driving west on Windsor-Perrineville Road and the victims were traveling east when their vehicles collided near the intersection of Cedarville Road, police said.

The driver and three passengers in the car suffered serious injuries, police said. One of the passengers in the car was trapped and had to be extricated from the car by first responders from the Millstone Volunteer Fire Company.

Two passengers were taken to the Ethel McKnight Elementary School and then transported by MedEvac – a helicopter staffed by medical personnel – to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by the NorthSTAR Air Medical Helicopter, police said.

The driver of the sedan and another passenger were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton by ambulance. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by ambulance.

Emergency medical technicians responded from East Windsor rescue squads no. 1 and no. 2, Millstone EMS, Robbinsville EMS and Robert Wood Johnson EMS. Capital Health paramedics also were called to the scene.

Firefighters from East Windsor volunteer fire companies no. 1 and no. 2, the Hightstown Fire Department and the Millstone Volunteer Fire Company also responded, police said.

The crash was investigated by the East Windsor Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office’s Serious Collision Response Team.
