ENGLISHTOWN – Republicans Daniel Francisco and William Lewis have won three-year terms on the Borough Council in Englishtown. The terms will run from January 2022 through December 2024.

Lewis, a newcomer, received 423 votes, and Francisco, an incumbent, received 408 votes in the 2021 election, according to results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office.

Democrat Sean Atterbury received 184 votes in his bid for a seat on the borough’s governing body.

The 2021 election was conducted with vote by mail ballots, with early in-person voting on nine days in late October; and with in-person voting on Nov. 2. The results of the election are unofficial until they have been certified by the county.

Francisco and Lewis won the Republican nominations in a contested primary election in June. Incumbent Councilwoman Maryanne Krawiec was unsuccessful in her bid to win a nomination and her term will end in December.

With the victories by Francisco and Lewis, Republicans will continue to hold all six council seats and the mayor’s office in Englishtown.

Francisco, who works in the energy sector, said he sought election to shrink the monopoly of government force as much as possible in the borough. He was appointed to the council in 2019 to fill a open seat. He has now won his first full three-year term.

“Very soon, the citizens of New Jersey will be able to carry a handgun in public and there is nothing the tyrants in Trenton can do about it,” Francisco said. “The days of treating people like second class slaves are over. I am proud to be part of the fight with the Firearms Policy Coalition to drive this natural right home.”

Lewis works as a chief engineer for a data center in New Jersey. He said he sought election to municipal office to be a leader who would listen to residents and act upon their thoughts.
