Through the efforts of the Howell Alliance for substance use prevention and mental health awareness, Howell became the first municipality in Monmouth County to receive updated New Jersey Smoke-Free Air Act signs.
The act requires a smoke-free environment in essentially all indoor workplaces and it requires locations that are open to the public, including places of business and service-related activities, to be smoke-free, with a few exceptions.
The law prohibits smoking outdoors on the property of any public or non-public elementary school or secondary school, and it prohibits smoking inside schools.
The new signs include marijuana products in addition to cigarettes and e-cigarettes. The signs include the telephone number for the NJ Quitline (1-866-NJ-STOPS).
The new signs were provided by the New Jersey Prevention Network and by Tobacco-Free for a Healthy New Jersey through funding from the New Jersey Department of Health, Office of Tobacco Control, according to municipal officials.
The directors of the Howell Alliance thanked Kait McCarthy, Prevention First’s assistant director and Prevention Coalition of Monmouth County’s regional coalition coordinator, and Howell Department of Public Works employees and director Paul Novello for their support of the alliance’s mission across many projects for the betterment of the community.
Michelle Ann Barron of Jackson, a 22-year veteran of the retail real estate industry, has joined R.J. Brunelli & Co. as a salesperson.
In her new role with the Old Bridge-based retail property brokerage, Barron will work on various R.J. Brunelli landlord and tenant representation accounts throughout New Jersey and neighboring states. She reports to Danielle Brunelli, president and principal.
“Michelle brings a wealth of experience dealing with national, regional and local tenants,” Brunelli said. “Beyond her deal-making skills, she brings a proven history of leadership and excellent client relations. We are thrilled to have her on our team.”
Barron holds an associate’s degree in applied science from the Fashion Institute of Technology, a part of the State University of New York, and an associate’s degree in humanities from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft.
The Jackson Liberty High School Marching Band was named the New Jersey State Champion on Oct. 30 by earning the Tournament of Bands title while competing against bands from across the state, according to a press release.
The competition took place at Cherokee High School in Marlton.
The Jackson Liberty band received awards for Best Percussion, Best Music and Best Visual. This is the fourth straight state championship the marching band has earned, according to the press release.
Prior to winning the state title, the Jackson Liberty band won the Region 7 Tournament of Bands title on Oct. 24, also winning awards for Best Music and Best Percussion.
Upon arriving back in Jackson, the band was met by the Jackson Police Department, which escorted the band to family members and friends who were waiting for them at the high school, according to the press release.
The Jackson Liberty High School Marching Band will perform in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade which will be broadcast on Channel 6, ABC-TV.
For the second year in a row, Andrei Jackamets of Howell, the owner of Andrei Jackamets Photography, is one of 40 artists out of nearly 500 who has been chosen to exhibit his work from Nov. 12-14 in The Juried Show of Art Fair 14C, in The Glass Gallery at Mana Contemporary, 10 Senate Place, Jersey City.
The Juried Show of Art Fair 14C features New Jersey artists exclusively, who live or have a studio in New Jersey. Jackamets is a commercial photographer and videographer, according to a press release.
His experience includes the fashion, pharmaceutical, hospitality and advertising industries, both nationally and internationally. His images have appeared on NBC, Bravo and Viacom. His print photography has appeared in Industry Magazine, Best of INTIMA, New Jersey Magazine, People and Us.
The mission of Art Fair 14C is to support the visual arts and artists all year, creating increased opportunities for artists; strengthening smaller art galleries and businesses; and expanding public access to fine art, according to the press release.
