Hillsborough library branch announces December programs

The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey’s (SCLSNJ) Hillsborough branch announced programming for December.

Note: The library, located at 379 S. Branch Road, will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25 and on Jan. 1.

Programs for All Ages

The Nutcracker: Dec. 1, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Discover a magical evening with American Repertory Ballet.

Craft in the Children’s Room – Snow Globe: Dec. 4, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Create a craft in the children’s room, while supplies last.

Programs for Children, ‘Tweens and Teens

Family Storytime – Story Squad (families with children): Dec. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30; 1-1:15 p.m. Discover 15 minutes of stories and literacy fun in the Youth Services Department.

Preschool Storytime – Science Stories (ages 3-6): Dec. 1, 10-10:30 a.m. Explore non-fiction books and science activities.

Family Storytime – Stories at Castle Park: Dec. 2, 10-10:30 a.m. Explore an outdoor storytime at Hillsborough’s Castle Park playground, located next to the Hillsborough Municipal Building.

Baby Songs (ages birth to 18 months): Dec. 3, 10, 17; 10-10:20 a.m. Spend time making music with your little one.

Read to a Therapy Dog (grades K-4): Dec. 3, 10; 4-5 p.m. Practice reading skills by reading to a certified therapy dog. Registration is required by visiting the youth services department or calling 908-458-8420.

Kindness Club Volunteer Program (grades 6-12): Dec. 3, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Connect with other teens and earn community service hours.

Toddler Storytime Toddler Time (ages 18 months to 3 years): Dec. 7, 14, 21, 28; 10-10:20 a.m. Introduce books to your child through stories and songs.

Teen Book Chat and Cocoa (grades 7-12): Dec. 7, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Enjoy hot cocoa, share what you are reading, and get new recommendations.

Family Storytime – Bedtime Stories in Children’s Room: Dec. 9, 15; 6:30-6:50 p.m. Wear pajamas and snuggle with your favorite stuffed animal friend or doll.

KIDZ Art Zone (grades K-3): Dec. 11, 10:15-11 a.m. Create masterpieces with your community.

Holiday Songs Around the World (ages birth to 9 years and caregivers): Dec. 11, 12:30-1:15 p.m. Discover a sing-along, dance-along holiday celebration featuring songs from several continents.

Craftacular (grades 4-6): Dec. 11, 3-4 p.m. Get your craft on at the library.

Teen Board Game Night (grades 7-12): Dec. 14, 6-7:30 p.m. Enjoy a tabletop game with friends.

Math Matters (ages 3-6): Dec. 15, 10-10:30 a.m. Discover stories and activities that will get your math brains working.

Nature Crafts – Holiday Centerpieces (grades 1-4): Dec. 15, 4-4:45 p.m. Create a nature-based craft with the members of the Neshanic Garden Club.

Teen Leadership Committee (grades 9-12): Dec. 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Connect with other teens and earn community service hours.

Tween Book Tasting (grades 4-6): Dec. 21, 6-7 p.m. Explore books of all different genres.

Movin’ Munchkins (ages 3-6): Dec. 22, 10-10:30 a.m. Connect during a movement program for children and caregivers.

Teen Craft Night (grades 7-12): Dec. 28, 5-6 p.m. Complete a DIY project.

New Year’s Eve at Noon (ages 2-6): Dec. 29, 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Listen to stories and count down to celebrate New Year’s at noon.

Art Adventures (ages 4-6): Dec. 30, 10:30-11 a.m. Create your own masterpiece.

Programs for Adults

STEAM for Adults – The Science Behind Meringue: Dec. 1, 2-3 p.m. Learn the science behind making meringue and discover how to make your own batch.

Job Search Drop-In: Dec. 3, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Discover job searching strategies and tips.

Writers Group: Dec. 6, 7-7:50 p.m. Connect with other writers and share works and experiences.

DIY Aromatherapy Gifts – Presented by Susan Niedt: Dec. 8, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Learn how to make aromatherapy products using essential oils and common household items.

Painted Coasters: Dec. 10, 2-3 p.m. Explore creativity with a painting craft.

Trivia Night Year in Review: Dec. 13, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Test your knowledge of 2021.

Decorate an Ugly Holiday Sweater: Dec. 14, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Connect with the community and create your own tacky creation.

Historical Fiction Fridays: Dec. 17, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Discuss the book “The Kitchen Front” by Jennifer Ryan.
