In addition to voting for governor, representatives of the state Legislature, and municipal and county officials in the 2021 general election, residents also elected members of local school boards.
The 2021 general election was contested with vote by mail ballots; with early in-person voting on nine days in late October; and with in-person voting on Nov. 2.
The results of each school board election will remain unofficial until they have been certified by the county. Local races produced the following results:
Hazlet Township Public Schools – Voters elected three individuals to three-year terms and one individual to a one-year unexpired term on the Board of Education.
According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, the winners of the three-year terms are incumbent board member George Theis, who received 2,350 votes, David Nathan Bibb, who received 1,953 votes, and incumbent board member Steven Grossman, who received 1,866 votes.
The other candidates who were seeking the three-year terms were Jennifer Allgeier, who received 1,826 votes, incumbent board members William J. Kolibas Jr., who received 1,806 votes, Dara Rettig, who received 1,530 votes, Cindy Davis, who received 899 votes, and Debra Wickenhauser, who received 784 votes.
The only candidate who ran for the one-year unexpired term was incumbent board member David E. Asfour, who received 2,861 votes to win the seat.
Holmdel Township Schools – Voters elected three individuals to three-year terms on the Board of Education.
According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, the winners of the three-year terms are Kimberly Tuccillo, who received 2,742 votes, Surekha Collur, who received 2,710 votes, and incumbent board member Terence Wall, who received 2,569 votes.
The other candidates who were seeking the three-year terms were Weiping Wang, who received 2,400 votes, Jill Perez, who received 2,365 votes, and Kristy O’Connor, who received 2,122 votes.
Keyport Public Schools – Voters elected three individuals to three-year terms and one individual to a two-year unexpired term on the Board of Education.
According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, the winners of the three-year terms are incumbent board member Laura Abrahamsen, who received 1,436 votes, Donna Spangler, who received 1,423 votes, and incumbent board member Joseph Stahley, who received 1,399 votes.
There were two candidates running for one two-year unexpired term: Caitlin Cunningham and incumbent board member Cathleen Reilly. Cunningham received 872 votes to win the unexpired term. Reilly received 705 votes.
Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District – Voters elected two individuals from Aberdeen Township and one individual from Matawan to three-year terms on the Board of Education.
There were four candidates seeking two three-year terms representing Aberdeen Township: incumbent board member John Montone, incumbent board member Joy Przywara, Diana Pell and Lisa Cashin.
According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Montone and Pell were elected with 2,812 votes and 2,532 votes, respectively. Cashin received 2,223 votes and Przywara received 1,833 votes.
There were two candidates seeking one three-year term representing Matawan: incumbent board member Shari Whalen and Katie Feiles. According to election results posted online, Feiles won the seat with 1,340 votes. Whalen received 822 votes.
Middletown Township Public Schools – Voters elected three individuals to three-year terms on the Board of Education.
There were four candidates seeking three three-year terms: incumbent board member Joan Minnuies, incumbent board member Deborah Wright, Kate Farley and Jaime Sanacore.
According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Farley, who received 13,770 votes, Minnuies, who received 13,669 votes, and Wright, who received 12,587 votes, were the winners of the three-year terms. Sanacore received 8,136 votes.
