The 2021 general election was conducted with vote by mail ballots; with early in-person voting on nine days in late October; and with in-person voting on Election Day, Nov. 2.

According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Riley received 2,478 votes, Reese received 2,107 votes, and Filis received 2,057 votes to win the three available terms. Incumbent board member Angela Munoz received 1,060 votes in an unsuccessful bid to retain her seat on the board.

The election results will remain unofficial until they have been certified by the county.

Filis and Munoz were appointed to the board to complete unexpired terms. Reese was the only incumbent candidate who was previously elected to a three-year term.

Current board members Billy Hanson and John Saxton did not seek re-election and their terms will end in December.

In addition to the three three-year terms that were on the ballot, two one-year unexpired terms on the school board were on the ballot. No residents filed a nominating petition for those seats.

According to the county clerk’s office, 930 write-in votes were cast in the race for the two one-year terms. Election officials were counting the write-in votes during the week of Nov. 8, but no results had been announced as of Nov. 12.

If the winners of the one-year terms are not determined by the write-in votes, the sitting board members would be expected to appoint new members to the vacant one-year terms.

In the Upper Freehold Regional School District, Stacey Blecher, Howard Krieger and Brett Williams won three-year terms on the Board of Education.

Krieger and Williams are incumbent board members and Blecher is a newcomer who will join the panel in January. Their terms will run from January 2022 through December 2024.

Of the school board’s nine members, seven are residents and representatives of Upper Freehold Township and two are residents and representatives of Allentown. This year, all three seats on the ballot were for representatives from Upper Freehold Township.

According to election results posted online by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Williams received 1,622 votes, Krieger received 1,462 votes, and Blecher received 1,450 votes to win the three-year terms.

The results showed Marisa Felice-Makar received 1,022 votes and Daniel Bruggers received 630 votes.

Board member Michele Anthony did not seek re-election and her current term will end in December.
