Spotswood police investigate burglaries, fraud

The Spotswood Police Department is currently investigating several incidents which have occurred recently within the borough.
Police received a report that an unlocked vehicle was entered on DeStefano Avenue and some items were taken on Nov. 3. Video surveillance shows a male subject wearing a hooded sweatshirt, a jacket, pants and sneakers pulling on car doors in the area, according to information provided by Lt. Les Genovese of the Spotswood Police Department.
Spotswood police responded to a residence on Snowhill Street for the report of an attempted burglary on Nov. 13. The residents, who were home at the time, heard a loud bang at their front door, according to reports. When the homeowner checked the front door it had sustained damage from what appears to be from the suspects kicking it. Prior to police arrival, the suspects had fled the area, according to the statement. Video footage captured three unidentified individuals in the area at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information on either incident should contact the Spotswood Police Department at 732-251-2121.
In addition, the police department has been inundated with fraud cases involving credit cards and New Jersey unemployment cases. Make every effort to protect identity and personal accounts, especially around the holiday season, Genovese said in the statement.
