The Manalapan Police Department has reported that an armed robbery occurred at a local gas station on Nov. 16.

Deputy Police Chief Leonard Maltese said that at 7:25 p.m., a 57-year-old Keyport resident reported that an unknown man armed with a knife approached an employee of the Lukoil service station, 360 Route 9, Manalapan, and demanded money.

The suspect in the robberty was described as being a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, wearing a black knit hat, a black mask, a black jacket and black pants. The suspect fled from the gas station on foot with $99 in cash proceeds from the robbery, according to police.

Anyone with information regarding the Nov. 16 incident is asked to contact the Manalapan Police Department at 732-446-4300 or Detective Seth Kreizman at 732-446-8371.

Patrolman John Lightbody and Patrolman Everett McNulty handled the report. The incident is pending further investigation.


Center Players will present a live radio play, “The Bishop’s Wife,” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold Borough, from Dec. 3-12. The script is adapted by Dave McGrath and is based on the 1936 novel of the same name by Robert Nathan.

Dejected by his efforts to raise money to build a cathedral, Bishop Henry Brougham beseeches heaven for guidance and is visited immediately by Dudley, who claims to be an angel, according to a press release.

Henry is skeptical, then annoyed, when Dudley ingratiates himself into the household as his assistant, and worse, wins the attentions of Henry’s long-suffering and kindly wife. When Dudley continues to intervene in Henry’s struggles, the bishop decides to challenge heaven.

As a radio play, the actors will be costumed, but will have scripts in hand. McGrath, who most recently directed “Dial M for Murder” at the playhouse in 2019, will also direct this production.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets

The Township Committee in Freehold Township has awarded a $243,330 contract to Gavan General Contracting Inc., Lakewood, for a restoration project on the Henderson barn, West Main Street (Route 537). The historic barn is owned by the township.

Committee members took the action during a meeting on Nov. 9. According to a resolution, Gavan General Contracting was awarded the contract as the lowest bidder.

A bid in the amount of $245,000 was submitted by George Koustas Painting and Construction, LLC, West Long Branch.

In other business, the committee members awarded a two-year contract to Zebras R Us for sports officiating services involving the Freehold Township Parks and Recreation’s youth and high school basketball leagues. Zebras R Us will be paid an estimated $37,450 for 2021-22 and an estimated $37,450 for 2022-23, for a total contract amount of $74,900.
