Barbara Dempsey Faig, 93

Barbara Dempsey Faig of Hopewell Township died on November 25, 2021 at the age of 93.

Daughter of James Bryant Dempsey and Ruth Martin Dempsey, she was born in Maracaibo Venezuela and attended boarding school in Connecticut and high school in Leonia NJ. She is predeceased by her sister Patricia Dempsey Galland and her beloved husband Wallace Samuel Faig. She is survived by her loving children, son Kenneth McAllister Faig and daughter Carolyn Faig Carroll, son- in- law Tom Carroll, grandchildren Jillian Carroll Stefanki (Sam), Sydney Carroll Owens (Richard) and Jared Thomas Carroll (Elizabeth) and great grandchildren Calvin, Wallace and Gus Stefanki, Connor and Marguerite Owens and Langston and Wilhelmina Carroll.

Barbara first met Wallace when he was discharged from the US Navy and she was a senior in High School. Upon graduation from High School in 1946, she attended the Latin-American Institute in New York City and became a bilingual secretary. She and Wallace married in 1950 and Barbara continued to work in NYC until Ken was born. After Carolyn’s arrival the family moved to Tenafly where they lived for 9 years. She and her family moved to Hopewell township in 1967, which has been her home ever since.

Barbara was active with her daughter as a Girl Scout Leader and in her church alter guild among many other activities while her children were young. Later on, she returned to work as a secretary at Houghton Mifflin, Pittman Moore and Bristol-Myers Squibb for 10 years until she retired as an executive secretary in the advertising department in 1982.

Upon retirement, Barbara became an active member of the local chapter of PEO and served as treasurer of this philanthropic women’s group. She also served as treasurer of the Abiding Presence Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Burial will be private at the family plot in Englewood, NJ at a future date. A Memorial Service for Wallace and Barbara is planned for the Spring.
