William Schlupp has been appointed to fill an open seat on Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education. Schlupp was sworn in as a board member during a meeting on Nov. 22.
Schlupp succeeds Peter Bonafide, who had served on the board since 2018. Schlupp’s appointment will run through 2022.
The final year of the term (2023) will appear on the November 2022 ballot as a one-year unexpired term. Schlupp or any other qualified resident of Millstone Township may seek the one-year term.
According to Business Administrator Bernard Biesiada, Schlupp was the only resident who sought the appointment to succeed Bonafide.
An increase has been authorized by the Township Committee for a project that will improve Millstone Township’s roads.
During a meeting on Dec. 1, committee members authorized a $39,161 increase in a contract with Meco Inc. for the 2020 road improvement project. The original contract totaled $1.41 million. Following two change orders, the contract now totals $1.51 million.
According to a resolution, the $39,161 increase was due to as-built quantities and additional work at the township’s request, including drainage repairs at Disbrow Hill and Agress Road, and curb and drainage improvements at Alpine Drive.
In other business, committee members approved a $3,549 increase to a $27,360 contract that was awarded to Complete Security Systems Inc. for fire and burglar alarm systems at various township owned properties. The contract now totals $30,909.
According to a resolution, the $3,549 increase resulted from the addition of fire protection systems at the new Millstone Park storage facility, Red Valley Road.
Center Players Dessert Theater will hold auditions for a production of the world premiere of “A Tomato Can’t Grow in the Bronx” at Center Playhouse, 35 South St., Freehold Borough. The play was written by Gary Morgenstein and will be directed by Bernice Garfield-Szita.
Audition dates are Dec. 17 from 7-9 p.m., and callbacks are on Dec. 19 from
7-9 p.m. Performance dates are Feb. 11-27, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and
Sundays at 2 p.m., according to a press release. This is a non-union, no pay production.
“A Tomato Can’t Grow in the Bronx” is a multi-generational comedy/drama set against the backdrop of the late 1960s. It is a poignant glimpse of a Jewish working class family trying to adjust to the changes in the world around them and their own family conflicts, according to the press release.

Sides from the play will be provided. Those auditioning should bring a resume and headshot if available and proof of COVID vaccination. COVID protocols will be followed; masks will be required when not on stage, and all cast, crew and patrons must be vaccinated, according to the press release.
