KEYPORT – Members of the Borough Council have entered into a grant agreement with Monmouth County to provide social services at the Keyport Senior Citizen Center, 110 Second St.
According to the municipal website, the senior center offers a wide range of activities and limited transportation is available. The senior center offers programs and classes in exercise, yoga, dance, nutrition, computers, art, ceramics and more.
According to the website, “the Senior Advisory Committee supports the programs of the center and accepts donations to make our programs possible. Donations can be made in memory of a loved on, or to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation or any special occasion. All donations are used for program activities or for center equipment.”
During a meeting on Dec. 7, Borough Council members authorized the execution of the grant agreement.
According to a resolution, Keyport, through the senior center, was approved to receive up to $37,500 in grant funding for the provision of senior citizens’ social services. The social services will be administered by the Division of Aging, Disabilities and Veteran Services in the Monmouth County Department of Human Services.
Keyport will receive the social services from Jan. 1, 2022, through Dec. 31, 2022, according to the resolution.
As stated in the resolution, municipal officials sought the grant funds to ensure the senior center can continue to provide social services to elderly residents for information and assistance; physical health screenings and assessments; physical activity programs; education; and socialization and recreational activities to facilitate social contact, reduce isolation and improve life satisfaction of Keyport’s senior residents.
According to the agreement, 500 senior clients will receive 2,200 information and assistance contacts; 320 senior clients will receive one of 7,500 sessions of socialization and recreation; 170 senior clients will receive one of 3,500 sessions of education; 120 senior clients will receive one of 4,700 sessions of physical activity; and 75 senior clients will receive 250 physical health contacts.

In other business, the council members appointed Borough Administrator Jay Delaney to serve as deputy municipal clerk on a temporary basis through Dec. 31. Delaney will not receive additional compensation for the temporary assignment.
And, council members approved the transfer of a plenary retail consumption liquor license from Uptown Keyport Bar & Grill, LLC, to 32 Broadstreet Bar, LLC.
Finally, the council appointed Kelly Plath as a Class II special law enforcement officer with the Keyport Police Department. Class II officers are authorized to execute the full powers and duties of a permanent full-time police officer under the supervision of the police chief. Plath’s appointment will end on June 30, 2022 and the position has an hourly rate of $20.
