METUCHEN – Metuchen police, with the assistance of Edison police, led to the arrest of five young people from New York, who were involved in an alleged robbery and assault of an individual on the sidewalk underneath the railroad bridge on Main Street in Metuchen.
The robbery, which reportedly involved a handgun and knife, occurred at 10:53 p.m. on Dec. 21, according to a press release by the Metuchen Police Department.
The victim was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and treated for injuries sustained during the robbery and released later that evening, police said.
The suspects – three males, ages 22, 19 and 18, and two 19-year-old females – were each charged with robbery with a deadly weapon; conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon; unlawful possession of a handgun; possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose and resisting arrest, police said.
Additionally, the 19-year-old male was also charged with hindering; aggravated assault on a police officer; possession of a weapon other than a firearm and credit card theft, police said.
