Montgomery driver escapes injury when car leaves road

A 19-year-old Skillman man escaped injury when his 2016 Ford Escape left the road and landed in a wooded area of Sunset Road between two houses, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.

Police were sent to investigate a one-car crash and found the sport utility vehicle disabled in the woods shortly after 10 p.m. Dec. 31.

The driver was not injured, but he showed signs of impairment, police said.

He reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

The driver was also charged with underage driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and failure to submit to a breath test, police said.

He was taken to the Montgomery Township Police Department headquarters for processing. He was released to a family member’s custody, pending an appearance in Montgomery Township Municipal Court.
