A Pine Hill man was charged with criminal mischief and driving while intoxicated following a crash on Route 1 at Washington Road, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

The Dec. 30 crash occurred when a Hyundai sedan slowed down in the left lane while the driver tried to see if was safe to make a left turn onto Washington Road, police said. The Pine Hill man was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the Hyundai.

The man reportedly got out of his car after the crash and approached the driver of the Hyundai, police said. He allegedly grabbed the cell phone out of the driver’s hand and threw it down into a sewer drain, breaking it, according to police.

During the investigation, police determined that the man was driving while intoxicated and was charged with the offense. He was also charged with criminal mischief for taking the other driver’s cell phone and intentionally breaking it, police said.

The man was taken to the West Windsor Police Department headquarters to be processed. He was released, pending a court date in West Windsor Municipal Court.
