Montgomery Township police peacefully disarm youth in crisis

Four Montgomery Township police officers used de-escalation techniques to disarm a juvenile who was in crisis and holding a knife, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.

The police officers were sent to the youth’s home Jan. 13 after a caller reported that the youth was holding a knife and refused to speak.

Once at the juvenile’s home, the police officers met with family members. After about two hours, the youth began to talk to the police officers, according to the reports. They were able to convince the youth to hand over the knife and to seek medical assistance, police said.

The police officers, working with the family, were able to transport the juvenile for treatment without issue.
