East Brunswick detective works with NYPD to charge man with attempted murder

EAST BRUNSWICK – The work of an East Brunswick detective, along with assistance from detectives from the NYPD, led to attempted murder charges against a Bronx man.
On May 2, 2021, at approximately 5:40 a.m., patrol officers responded to the North Lake Apartment Complex at 85 Main St. in East Brunswick for the report of a motor vehicle crash and shots fired.
An on-scene investigation conducted by officers revealed a dispute between two males had taken place, which resulted in a motor vehicle crash and shots fired by a male suspect who had fled the scene prior to police arrival, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.
Detective Alex Danese conducted a followup investigation, and information developed identified the suspect as Sorel Thomas, a 28-year-old male from The Bronx, New York.
Danese signed complaint warrants for Thomas’s arrest and provided all relevant information to NYPD detectives, according to the statement. On Feb. 10, 2022, NYPD detectives advised Danese they had taken Thomas into custody, according to the statement.
Thomas was transported to East Brunswick police headquarters, where he was processed for attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was subsequently transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center.
