Auten Road sixth grader participates in county-wide spelling bee

The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey held its 6th Annual Bee Spectacular Spelling Bee. Ishan Bala, a sixth grader at Auten Road Intermediate School in Hillsborough, was one of the 20 participants on March 5.
The first place winner, and the student who will represent Somerset County at the National Bee in Washington, D.C., was eighth grader Nitya Kathiravan from Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset.

The winning word was No. 314, Telamon. Telamon is a noun, originally a Greek word that then passed into Latin, and defined as a male figure used as a supporting column or pilaster.

The second place winner was seventh grader Atharv Narvekar from Montgomery Upper Middle School in Skillman.

The event was presented, judged, and hosted by Somerset County commissioners, library commissioners, and SCLSNJ staff.
