HOLMDEL – The members of the Township Committee have adopted three bond ordinances that will fund municipal improvements in Holmdel.
Members of the governing body adopted the ordinances during a meeting on March 8.
Mayor Greg Buontempo, Deputy Mayor Prakash Santhana, Committeewoman Cathy Weber, Committeeman D.J. Luccarelli and Committeeman Rocco Impreveduto voted “yes” on separate motions to adopt each piece of legislation.
The first ordinance provides an appropriation of $5.52 million for capital improvements in the township and authorizes the issuance of $5.24 million in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation. Municipal officials will make a down payment in the amount of $276,080 as part of the appropriation.
The improvements to be funded by this ordinance include the acquisition of equipment, including community center lighting, a message board and a zero turn mower; information technology equipment; public facility improvements, including improvements to the first aid building and an addition to the public works storage garage; public safety equipment, including turnout gear, portable radios, portable scene light, mobile radios, traffic signs and weapons (pistols and rifles); and 2022 road improvements in the township.
The second ordinance authorizes sewer utility improvements and appropriates $2.68 million for the work, with $2.18 million to be issued in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation.
The total appropriation includes $500,000 Holmdel has received under the federal American Rescue Plan Act. No down payment is required by New Jersey’s Local Bond Law for these improvements, according to the ordinance.
This ordinance will provide funding for improvements to the sewer utility system in the township, including but not limited to Mount Drive force main renovations, pump station renovations and Phase I system renovations.
The third ordinance authorizes swimming pool utility improvements at the Holmdel Swim Club and appropriates $445,800 for the work, with $423,510 to be issued in bonds or notes to finance part of the appropriation. Municipal officials will make a down payment in the amount of $22,290 as part of the appropriation.
This ordinance will provide funding for swimming pool utility improvements at the swim club, including but not limited to the replacement of tennis courts and the replacement of sand filters and renovations to the pump house roof.
Municipal officials said the bonds that are issued to help pay for the sewer utility improvements and the swimming pool utility improvements will be repaid by the users of those utilities.
