Hillsborough High Mock Trial Team wins Somerset County championship

The Hillsborough High School Mock Trial Team is the Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition Somerset County Champions.

Raj Boparai, Vaani Gupta, Nicholas Henderson, Prisha Mitra Thakur, Afanwi Numfor, Azinwi Numfor, Aiden Neuberger, Vaibhav Potluri, Om Shah and Richa Shah, led by Coaches Bob Fenster and Julianne Anderson, also won the first round of regionals, according to a proclamation presented to the team during the Hillsborough Township Committee meeting on April 26.

 

 

During the virtual county competition, the Hillsborough team beat Mt. St. Mary Academy of Watchung in the semifinals and Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School of Bridgewater in the finals, according to the statement.

The students practice twice a week, two to three hours a day, developing legal arguments in the form of direct and cross examinations and opening and closing statements, practice making and responding to objections, and hone public speaking skills and the ability to think on their feet, according to the proclamation.
