The Freehold Township Planning Board has undergone several membership changes in recent weeks.
Rich Gatto, who served as the board’s chairman for many years, and Rob Kash, who served several terms on the board, have stepped down from the panel.
During the board’s April 21 meeting in the municipal building, Apryl Kurtz and Jason Levy, who had both been serving as alternate members of the board for several years, were sworn in as regular Class IV members by the board’s attorney, Roger McLaughlin.
John Krok was sworn in as a new alternate member of the board.
The board members who were in attendance that evening – Levy, Kurtz, Krok, Leon Bruno Jr., Patrick Coburn, Robert Shortmeyer, Mayor Maureen Fasano and Margaret Jahn – then unanimously elected Levy to serve as chairman. They then unanimously elected board member John Bazzurro to serve as vice chairman.
The remaining members of the Planning Board are Christopher Marion, Michael Pucci and Township Committeeman Tom Cook.
The board’s May 5 meeting has been cancelled. The panel’s next scheduled meeting is on May 19.
The Statesir Cancer Center at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, now offers pancreatic cancer screening for individuals whose family history puts them at a higher risk of pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer screenings hold great promise in earlier diagnosis, at a stage when the cancer is more treatable. It is seldom detected early because there are very few symptoms associated with it until it has spread to other organs, according to a press release.
To be eligible for the screening, prospective patients must have two or more first-degree relatives, such as a parent, sibling or child who had pancreatic cancer, or have one first-degree relative who had pancreatic cancer and have a known genetic mutation that may cause it, such as the BRCA gene, according to the press release.
Those who are deemed eligible get a complete medical screening and a non-invasive scan to determine if cancer may be present.
