Rabid raccoon located in South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A township resident’s dog had an altercation with a raccoon in the vicinity of Ridge Road near Route 522 on May 10, and the raccoon later tested positive for rabies.
The raccoon was retrieved by Animal Control and transported to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory. The State Laboratory reported on May 12 that the raccoon tested positive for rabies, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.
This is the first rabid animal reported within South Brunswick Township in 2022.

Residents should avoid any contact with any animal acting suspiciously and call South Brunswick Animal Control at 732-329-4000, ext. 7265, or the South Brunswick Health Department at 732-329-4000, ext. 7237.
