The Princeton Police Department is stepping up its presence around Princeton High School, Princeton Middle School and the four elementary schools in the wake of the May 24 school shooting incident that killed 19 children and two teachers in Texas.
An 18-year-old man walked into an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, and shot the children and their teachers in their classroom, according to published reports.
He was killed by an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Patrol special agent.
Parents and students can expect to see an increased police presence around the schools for the rest of this week and into next week, according to school district officials.
“Our department is committed to ensure the safety of our children in Princeton,” according to a post on the Princeton Police Department’s Facebook page.
“We will increase our visibility at all of our schools over the next several weeks. Please report any suspicious activity to our department,” the Facebook post said.
“No parent should have to feel scared to send their child off to school in the morning, and our hope is that our presence at the schools will help put your mind at ease,” the Facebook post said.
