West Windsor-Plainsboro High School student charged with making alleged social media threat

A West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South student has been charged with allegedly making false public alarms for issuing a threat posted on social media aimed at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North yesterday, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District was made aware of the threat posted to social media aimed at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North late in the afternoon June 5, police said.

The West Windsor and Plainsboro police departments launched an investigation which determined that the threat was “non-credible,” police said. West Windsor-Plainsboro High School is in Plainsboro Township.

The investigation, which was conducted by the two police departments in collaboration with West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District officials, determined that the student – who is a juvenile – issued the threat. The student was charged and is facing an appearance in Mercer County Juvenile Court, police said.

Although the false public alarm charge was filed, the investigation is on-going, police said. There was an increase in police presence in the school district, which spans West Windsor and Plainsboro townships, on June 6, police said.

The West Windsor Police Department is encouraging anyone who knows of similar social media posts or threats to immediately contact their local police department for a thorough investigation.
