Hopewell man charged with alleged attempted groping

A 49-year-old Hopewell man has been charged in connection with an alleged attempted groping of a teenager last week.

The suspect allegedly approached the victim, a 17-year-old girl, from behind as she was getting into her car parked in the Franklin Avenue parking lot on June 2 in Princeton, police said. He allegedly grabbed her left leg in an attempt to grab her buttocks.

The man was charged with attempted criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

He was processed and transported to the Mercer County Correction Center.

Police are continuing to investigate several open criminal sexual contact cases that may be related to this case. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident on June 2 or who may have additional information is asked to contact Detective Eric Dawson at 609-921-2100, ext. 1832.
