SOUTH RIVER – The South River Borough Council has adopted a bond ordinance appropriating $950,000 to fund improvements for the borough’s water treatment, storage and distribution system.

The Township Council adopted the ordinance at a meeting on June 13.

The bond ordinance includes $100,000 of bonds, $825,782 in grants from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and a $24,217 down payment.

The ARPA provides economic relief for local governments negatively impacted by COVID-19. The funds granted by the bill enable local municipalities to invest in infrastructure, government services and community-related issues such as small businesses and nonprofits, officials said.

According to the ordinance, the bond will specifically fund the improvement of treatment and distribution systems, lead and galvanized pipes, storage units, water mains, valves, meters and hydrants.
