Head daycare teacher in Edison charged with ‘physically’ assaulting toddler in her care

EDISON – A daycare teacher has been charged with “physically” assaulting a 2-year-old child in her care, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan.

Nusrat J. Ameen, 56, of Edison, who is employed as a head teacher at the “I Can Kids” Childcare at 806 Route 1 North, was charged after an investigation, according to a press release through the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office on Aug. 3.

The incident was reported to authorities on July 29. An investigation conducted by Detectives Ankur Mankad and Matthew Eitel of the Edison Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined Ameen allegedly “assaulted the child” on July 28.

Ameen had been employed at the daycare for 12 years. The daycare includes children between the ages of 18 months and two and a half years old, according to the press release.

She was charged with abuse and neglect, a fourth-degree crime. She was processed and released pending central judicial processing, according to the press release.
