Dr. Alexander L. Shifrin, (endocrine surgery), has joined the staff of Surgical Associates of CentraState and CentraState Healthcare System in Freehold Township as the surgical director of CentraState’s endocrine program. A board certified endocrine surgeon focusing exclusively on diagnosis and surgical treatment of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disease, Shifrin has performed thousands of endocrine surgeries over his career, according to a press release.
“Dr. Shifrin brings nationally renowned expertise in endocrine surgery to our team that will greatly benefit patients in our region, and we are honored he has chosen to practice here,” said Dr. Alexander Itskovich, medical director of the Statesir Cancer Center at CentraState. “He is a thought leader in the field who will bring tertiary endocrine care to our system.”
Shifrin performs innovative techniques in minimally invasive surgeries, including outpatient thyroid and outpatient parathyroid surgery, posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy surgery, minimally invasive video-assisted endoscopic parathyroidectomy, and ultrasound guided FNA thyroid biopsy, according to the press release.
He has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, medical books and atlases, including Atlas of Thyroid Surgery, Atlas of Parathyroid Surgery, Atlas of Adrenal Surgery, Atlas of Parathyroid Imaging and Pathology and Endocrine Emergencies.
