HOLMDEL — The Township Committee has awarded a contract to Dutchman Contracting, LLC, of Reinholds, Pa., for the construction of a pole building at the Holmdel Department of Public Works.

The website lexico.com defines a pole building as “a quickly constructed building in which vertical poles are secured in the ground to serve as both the foundation and framework.”

During a meeting on Aug. 9, Mayor Greg Buontempo, Deputy Mayor Prakash Santhana, Committeeman D.J. Luccarelli and Committeeman Rocco Impreveduto voted “yes” on a motion to pass a resolution awarding the contract to the Pennsylvania company.

One seat on the Township Committee remains vacant following the recent resignation of Committeewoman Cathy Weber, who stepped down from the governing body prior to moving out of Holmdel.

According to the resolution, on June 30 nine bids were received from contractors who were seeking to construct the pole building at the DPW.

The following bids were received: Dutchman Contracting, LLC, ($397,380); Byler Brothers ($497,194); Catel Inc. ($587,000); McCauley Construction Company Inc. ($597,000); Pharos Construction, LLC, ($692,000); George Koustas Painting and Construction Inc. ($711,000); J.R. Contracting and Environmental Consulting Inc. ($844,000); Berto Construction ($916,650); and Mixalia Enterprises, LLC, ($1,024,000).

Holmdel’s qualified purchasing agent recommended that the contract be awarded to the apparent low bidder, Dutchman Contracting, LLC, and the committee members voted in the affirmative on that recommendation.

In other business on Aug. 9:

• The committee members passed a resolution setting salaries for Class III special law enforcement officers who are employed by the Holmdel Police Department to, among other things, provide security services to the Holmdel Public Schools Board of Education. For the 2022-23 academic year, the salary for all Class III officers will be $35 per hour;

• The committee members passed a resolution reappointing Class III special law enforcement officers David Buckle, James Latella, Michael Maiorelli, Anthony Genova, John Furch, Joseph Sarao and Steven Sakowski;

• Upon the recommendation of Acting Police Chief Frank Allocco, the committee members passed a resolution to fill a vacant police officer’s position in the Holmdel Police Department by hiring Monica Bishop to fill the position. The officer’s salary will be $48,008;

• Interim Township Administrator William E. Antonides Jr., during his report to the Township Committee, said planning is underway for the expansion of Holmdel’s dog park at Bayonet Farm off Middletown Road. Antonides said the first issue that will be evaluated in the process is where additional parking at the site may be located.
