East Windsor man pleads guilty to fatally stabbing another man in 2019

A 40-year-old East Windsor Township man pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter for stabbing another man to death in 2019 before Mercer County Superior Court Judge Robert Lytle, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri.

Jefrey Vasquez-Calderon, who pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 6, stabbed Luis Sanchez to death at the victim’s home on Bennington Drive in East Windsor Township, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Sanchez, 30, was found on the patio of his home by a friend around 8:30 a.m. Feb. 27, 2019.

East Windsor police officers responded to Bennington Drive and found Sanchez unresponsive on the back patio, according to the prosecutor’s office. There were visible wounds and trauma to Sanchez’s body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanchez and Vasquez-Calderon, who were neighbors on Bennington Drive, had gone out to a liquor store and lounge earlier on Feb. 26, 2019.They returned to Sanchez’s home and at some point, Vasquez-Calderon stabbed Sanchez numerous times with a knife, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office will recommend that Vasquez-Calderon be sentenced to 22 years in state prison under the No Early Release Act. Sentencing is set for Nov. 4 in Mercer County Superior Court.
