Monmouth County Grand Jury indicts Edison man for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend

FREEHOLD – A Monmouth County Grand Jury returned a two-count indictment against an Edison Township man who was found in Atlantic Highlands with the body of his former girlfriend in the back of his vehicle in June, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.

Jordan J. Vilcatoma-Correjo, 28, is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree disturbing human remains in connection with the death of Sonia Gonzales, 26, also of Edison.

The Grand Jury indictment included an aggravating factor that would make Vilcatoma-Correjo eligible to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, if convicted, according to a press release through the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office on Sept. 14.

Members of the Atlantic Highlands Police Department responding to a call for service originating from near the area of Asbury Avenue between Navesink and Grand avenues shortly before 7:45 a.m. on June 10, according to the press release.

Police located a Honda Accord with Gonzales’ body inside. Vilcatoma-Correjo was also located at the scene, and he was “immediately taken into custody,” police said.

Vilcatoma-Correjo was criminally charged after an investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Atlantic Highlands Police Department, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Edison Police Department.

He remains at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute (MCCI) pending future court proceedings.
