Two Florida residents were charged with auto theft for allegedly stealing a U-Haul van, worth $42,000, from Cordero’s Auto Repair on Washington Road, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

The man and the woman tried to rent a U-Haul van, but the credit cards they used were allegedly all declined on Aug. 26, police said. While the customer service representative was distracted, they allegedly grabbed the keys to the van and drove away, police said.

The van was stopped by the Coral Springs (Fla.) Police Department on Aug. 28, police said. The man, who was one of the occupants in the van, allegedly tried to identify himself as someone else by using a stolen driver’s license, police said.

Fingerprints revealed his true identity, and he was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in Florida, police said.

The man and the woman were charged with the theft of the U-Haul van and they have dates pending in Mercer County Superior Court.
