Freehold Township officials will purchase, preserve open space parcels

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The members of the Township Committee in Freehold Township will purchase and preserve an open space parcel on Siloam Road and an open space parcel on Turkey Swamp Road.

Siloam Road (Route 527) begins at Monmouth Road (Route 537) at the border of Freehold Township, Manalapan and Millstone Township and eventually becomes Cedar Swamp Road in Jackson.

Turkey Swamp Road runs between Siloam Road and Turkey Swamp Park Road in Freehold Township.

During a meeting on Sept. 20, the committee members adopted an ordinance that authorizes the purchase of a 1.01-acre property at 55 Siloam Road (1.01 acres) and a 5.76-acre property at 120 Turkey Swamp Road (rear). Both parcels have the same owner.

120 Turkey Swamp Road (rear) is west of 55 Siloam Road.

According to the ordinance, township officials negotiated with the property owner and agreed to purchase the two properties for $70,000, contingent upon title review and receipt of funds to purchase the parcels by bond, loan or grant.

The ordinance states that township officials determined it to be in the public interest to purchase the two properties for open space and other public purposes.

And, committee members have introduced an ordinance that will, if adopted, authorize the purchase of a 0.51-acre property at 52 Siloam Road. Officials determined it would be in the public interest to purchase the property for open space and other public purposes.

Officials negotiated with the property owner and agreed to purchase 52 Siloam Road for $50,000, contingent upon title review and receipt of funds to purchase the property by bond, loan or grant.

In other recent Township Committee business:

• Officials awarded a $91,311 contract to James R. Ientile Inc. for the replacement of a headwall at Rose Court. Bids were also submitted by D’Avellino Construction Inc. ($221,028); Seacoast Construction Inc. ($144,195); T.R. Weniger Inc. ($139,779); Salmon Brothers Inc. ($125,900); Montana Construction ($123,496); Berto Construction Inc. ($117,804); and Earle Asphalt ($100,013);

• Committee members authorized a contract for the repair and replacement of pumps and motors for the Gully Road, Joysan Terrace and Robertsville Road pump stations. The contract was awarded to Rapid Pump and Meter Services Company Inc., Paterson, in the amount of $89,432;

• A $214,875 contract has been awarded to L&L Paving Company Inc. for the 2022-23 pavement preservation program. Bids were also submitted by S&G Paving Inc. ($642,500); Black Rock Enterprises ($500,250); P.M. Construction Corp. ($415,000); Earle Asphalt Company ($368,850); and Fiore Paving Company Inc. ($256,750).
