Brandywine Living at Princeton celebrated National Assisted Living week in style with a number of fun events.
Stephanie Gaber, escapades producer at Brandywine Living Princeton, said for National Assisted Living week the theme was “joyful moments.”
“I added ‘Joyful moments through TV sitcoms and series,’ so each day was also a different retro sitcom,” she said during the Holy Batman Party, which concluded the festive week.
“Happy Days” on Sunday, “Miami Vice” on Monday, “Green Acers” on Tuesday, “Lost in Space” on Wednesday, “I Dream of Jeanie” on Thursday, “I Love Lucy” on Friday and “Batman” on Saturday.
“When I found out it was National Batman Day on Sept. 17, I just had to have a Batman party,” Gaber said.
Residents enjoyed a “Happy Days” theme celebration on Sept. 11 with a surprise visit from “The Fonz.”
Who Are Those Guys Fifties Band was on hand and included a tribute of the Sept. 11, 2011 terroristic attacks.
The celebration included a goldfish eating contest, photo props/shoots, themed 1950s decorations, cameo visits from Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean and classic burgers, hotdogs, shakes and fries.
The event was also a fundraiser for Marty’s Place, a nonprofit senior dog sanctuary that provides love, care and beautiful shelter for senior dogs in Allentown. The fundraiser raised $825 for the nonprofit organization.
On Sept. 12, it was Miami Vice Day. Lunch was provided for South Brunswick police officers who brought in K-9 Eli for a demonstration.
On Sept. 13, it was Green Acers Day. Quiver farms in Pennsylvania brought in farm animals of pigs, lambs, goats, turkeys, geese, rabbits, bunnies and ducks
On Sept. 14, residents got to get “Lost in Space.” The great room was transformed into a planetarium where residents were able to “gaze at the planets and Outerspace artwork” created by the residents.
America’s Got Talent Laser Mega Robot, who stands at 8.5 feet tall, was on hand to make the galactic experience a one to remember.
On Sept. 17, a Holy Party Batman! was held on National Batman Day to conclude the weeklong celebration.
Gotham City took over Brandywine Princeton with favorite Cape Crusader Batman, Batgirl, Cat Woman, and villain Joker.
Residents were able to also take a ride in the authentic bat mobile with a bat phone and all.
Residents were dressed in their Batman shirts. There were a lot of props and photo shoots.
The event also served as a fundraiser for Hope For Ukraine. People were able to purchase batman cookies, Gotham punch, sunflowers and resident artwork for the fundraiser.
The fundraiser garnered $500 for Hope For Ukraine, an organization raising funds for various charitable causes in Ukraine.
National Assisted Living Week was established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995. The week provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to offer a variety of events and activities to celebrate the individuals they serve, as well as to help educate members of the public about this distinctive aspect of long-term care, according to NCAL.
