Farmer, Santos to lead Lawrence Township school board in 2023

Three newly re-elected school board members were sworn into office and board officers were chosen at the Lawrence Township Public Schools Board of Education’s annual reorganization meeting Jan. 3.

Pepper Evans, Michelle King and Amanda Santos were sworn into office for three-year terms. Evans has served on the school board since 2011 and King has served since 2016. Santos was appointed to fill an unexpired term in 2021 and won a full three-year term in the November general election.

School board member Patricia Hendricks Farmer was appointed to serve another term as the school board president, and Santos was appointed to serve as school board vice president. The term is for one year.

In other business, the school board adopted its meeting calendar for 2023. It will meet once per month, except for June and August, when it will meet twice per month.

Also, the school board awarded three contracts to the architectural and planning firm of Fraytak Veisz Hopkins and Duthie, Ewing, for separate projects including a contract for up to $53,500 for HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) diagnostic engineering and commissioning design services.

The firm also was awarded a contract for up to $39,250 for architectural design and development for the Ben Franklin Elementary School paving project, and a contract for up to $41,900 for architectural design and development for the Lawrenceville Elementary School paving project.
