The Princeton Public Schools will host a State of the District celebration, highlighting the district and its programs, on Feb. 27 at the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center on Moore Street.

The free event is open to the public and will run from 6-8 p.m. It will feature a district “expo” about the schools and programs, school district officials said. There will be student-led tours of Princeton High School.

The State of the District celebration will feature a keynote address by Child and Family Well-Being expert Tara Doaty. She is the founder of Sage Wellness Group, which is based in Baltimore, Md. She earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Howard University.

The school district has worked with Sage Wellness Group to provide professional development training to staff on social-emotional learning, racial equity, restorative justice and trauma-informed care.

Parents can talk with administrators, supervisors, teachers and students who are staffing tables highlighting Princeton Public Schools programs. The tables include general topics such as “What Do School Counselors Do,” “English as a Second Language,” “Facilities Planning for the Future,” and “Princeton Parents of Black Children.”

Tables also will be set up to share information on “Teaching Secondary Humanities in Times Like These” and “Building Equitable Learning Environments,” aimed at parents of Princeton Middle School and Princeton High School students.

Also, the Princeton Public Schools’ recently completed five-year strategic plan will be unveiled. The strategic plan operates as a roadmap for the school district and seeks to bring together all stakeholders to form a shared vision and common goals for the district, officials said.

The strategic plan puts the school district in a better position to move ahead with goals over the next five years, said Superintendent of Schools Carol Kelley. There is work to be done, but the strategic plan forms a framework for how to achieve those goals, she said.
