Hillsborough continues toward becoming ‘a more inclusive community’ in recognition of Black History Month

Hillsborough recognizes February as Black History Month.

With the recognition, the township “continues to work toward becoming a more inclusive community wherein all people are respected and recognized for their contributions and potential contributions to our community, state, country and world,” according to a township proclamation.

Mayor Shawn Lipani presented a proclamation at a Township Committee meeting Feb. 14.

“During Black History Month, we celebrate the many achievements and vast contributions of African Americans to the economic, spiritual, political, and cultural, development of both our nation and our community,” the proclamation states.

The 2023 theme is “Black Resistance” and explores how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression, in all forms.

“The observance of Black History Month reminds us of the continued need to mitigate racism and to build a harmonious community,” the proclamation continues.

“Hillsborough Township is proud to honor the history and contributions of African Americans in our community.”
