Bordentown Township police recognize their own

The Bordentown Township Police Department recognized officers for their accomplishments at the department’s annual meeting.

The officer awards recognize “a highly creditable accomplishment as a result of training, devotion to duty or service to the public” from Oct. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2022, according to the township’s police department.

The officers were presented with the awards during the week of Feb. 20. The officers include Ptl. Chase Potocny, Ptl. Brianna Bogdan, Sgt. Christopher Burns, Det. Anthony Nagle, Ptl. Adam Edwards, Lt. Josh Pavlov, Ptl. Mark Sherman, Ptl. Joshua Gardner, Sgt. Keith Stahl, Ptl. Ryan Forster and Ptl. Michael Elberson.

Potocny and Bogdan were honored for a significant arrest they made of a subject in January 2022 who possessed false government ID’s, $40,000 in fraudulently obtained money orders and $55,000 in fraudulently obtained checks.

Potocny was also recognized for exceptional service that he displayed in July 2022 when he arrested a male for trafficking in counterfeit goods and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Burns was commended for his arrest of three subjects following a car stop in March 2022 in which the suspects possessed two handguns and a large quantity of marijuana.

Nagle and Edwards were honored for their quick recognition and investigation of a high school student who advertised on social media the sale of a firearm which led to the student’s arrest and weapon seizure in April 2022.

Pavlov was recognized for his “invaluable investigative assistance” and court testimony which led to conviction of a bank robber in March 2022 as well as a car stop he made in July 2022 that resulted in two arrests and the seizure of a handgun and heroin.

Sherman was commended for an arrest he made in August 2022 of subjects in possession of counterfeit $100 bills who were determined to be multi-jurisdictional offenders.

Gardner was recognized for his surveillance and arrest of subject for an in-progress catalytic converter theft in September 2022.

Stahl, Forster and Elberson were recognized for a unit citation. Unit citations are awarded for a team effort under adverse conditions in which the team members distinguished themselves to effectuate the protection of life and property, according to the police department.

In May 2022, the officers responded to a home in the Township for a resident who accidentally cut and severed an artery in their arm and was experiencing heavy bleeding. The officers remained calm and worked together to apply tourniquets to the patient’s arm while continually reassuring the patient that he was going to be OK. These officers then continued to assist as Bordentown EMS (emergency medical services) arrived on location and helped load the patient into the ambulance. The patient was treated at a local hospital and has made a full recovery.
