Driving while intoxicated, assault by auto and other charges were filed against a Yardley, Pa., man after he allegedly caused three car crashes on Route 1 between Quakerbridge Road and Washington Road in the span of several minutes around 5 p.m. March 24, according to the West Windsor Police Department.
The string of crashes began when the man allegedly rear-ended a Subaru on Route 1 north at Quakerbridge Road. Then he allegedly struck the rear of a Mazda on Route 1 north at Meadow Road, police said.
The driver of the Mazda suffered minor injuries to her neck and was taken to Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center for treatment.
The trail of crashes ended when the man’s car struck the center median and flipped over on Route 1 north at Washington Road, police said. The car landed in the center lane. He was partially trapped in his 2016 Acura TLX and had to be extricated by first responders.
The man was unresponsive at first, but he had a pulse, police said. He regained consciousness with the help of first responders. He was determined to have no traumatic injuries and was taken to Capital Health Medical Center in Trenton for evaluation.
In addition to being charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by auto, he was charged with reckless driving, careless driving, following too closely and failure to maintain lane, police said.
He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, failure to report an accident, possession of heroin and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, police said.
The West Windsor Police Department, the West Windsor Division of Fire & Emergency Services, the Princeton Junction Volunteer Fire Co. and Capital Health paramedics responded to the scene.
