Repairs to tower latest in a series of projects for Princeton Public School District
Masonry repairs will be made to the decorative elements of the Princeton High School tower over the main entrance to the school.
The Princeton Public Schools Board of Education awarded at $178,000 contract to Arista Builders and Designers Inc., at its May 23 meeting. Six bids were submitted, ranging from $178,000 to $565,000.
The Jackson Township-based contractor will make repairs to cracks in the facade of the tower and also fill in chunks of missing masonry.
Arista Builders and Designers Inc.’s bid award is the latest in a series of contracts awarded by the school board for repairs to the district’s schools.
The school board awarded a $1.5 million contract to Long Branch-based Shorelands Construction Inc. for siding repairs to the Littlebrook and Riverside elementary schools at its April 25 meeting.
Shorelands Construction Inc. also will repair the fascia and gutters at the Johnson Park School. New skylights will be installed.
In March, the school board awarded a $188,000 contract to Northeast Roof Maintenance for repairs and replacement to the slate roof at Princeton High School. The contractor is based in Perth Amboy.
The projects were authorized under a $17.5 million bond referendum approved by voters in January 2022. It was billed as a maintenance referendum to repair leaky roofs and outdated HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) units at each of the district’s six school buildings.
Some of the roofs were replaced in 1995 and some were replaced in 2004. The new roofs will be solar-ready, officials said.
The State of New Jersey is picking up 34% of the tab in new debt service, officials said. The state will reimburse the school district for 34% of the principle and interest payments that it incurs.
