Head-on collision on Route 31 kills one person and injures two others

One person was killed and two other people were injured when the Honda Civic in which they were riding veered across Route 31 and struck a tractor trailer head-on on May 27, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

The Honda Civic was traveling south on Route 31 when it left the southbound lane and struck the tractor trailer in the crash, which was reported at 12:07 p.m., police said. It occurred on the stretch of Route 31 between Titus Mill Road and Hopewell-Pennington Road.

The three occupants of the Honda Civic were rushed to an area hospital, but one of the occupants died at the hospital as the result of injuries from the crash, police said.’

The Hopewell Township Police Department responded to the crash, along with the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Pennington Fire Co. and EMS unit, the Hopewell Fire Co., Capital Health Systems paramedics, the New Jersey State Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

The crash is under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office’s Serious Collision Response Team. Anyone with information about the crash may contact Hopewell Township police Detective Steve Ciosek.
