The Lawrence Township Council has awarded ACT Engineers a contract for $116,225 for engineering and design work for the 2025 road improvement program.
The road improvement program calls for a mill-and-overlay of asphalt on various streets throughout the township, including the Long Acres neighborhood behind the Lawrence Township Municipal Complex.
In a mill-and-overlay program, the top layer of asphalt is removed and replaced with new asphalt.
The 2025 road improvement program includes a stretch of Bergen Street, between Craven Lane and Cold Soil Road; a section of Cold Soil Road between Van Kirk Road and the “S” curve; and an 800-foot-long stretch of Forrest Avenue and a 700-foot-long stretch of Rossa Avenue.
Also, Lawn Park Avenue, Point Court, Tartan Court and a 1,300-foot-long stretch of Hughes Avenue will be included in the road improvement program.
ACT Engineering will evaluate the curbs on those streets and note their condition. If the curb is deteriorated or has been damaged, it will be replaced. Driveway aprons also may be replaced if they are adjacent to the damaged curb.
Speed humps will be removed and replaced.
In the Long Acres neighborhood, the top lay of asphalt will be removed and replaced on West Long Drive, Orchard Lane, Sunset Road, Garden Road and West Church Road. There are no curbs or speed humps on those streets.
The engineering firm’s contract calls for it to design drainage improvements on Jochris Drive, off Cold Soil Road; and Alcazar Avenue in the Eldridge Park neighborhood and Bakers Basin Road.
ACT Engineering will prepare bid specifications for the road program and also prepare a construction cost estimate – how much the project is expected to cost.
