Louise was born December 4, 1934 in Pittsburgh PA to Emily Kirsch and Justus Mulert. She grew up in Mount Lebanon PA and attended the Ellis School in Pittsburgh PA. When she was young, Louise enjoyed horseback riding and taking care of farm animals. She graduated from the Ellis School in Pittsburg PA in 1952. She then spent two years at Wheaton College in Norton MA followed by two years at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA where she graduated in 1956. Louise spent summers attending Millbrook Camp in Bridgton ME where she met her first husband George R. Ferguson Jr. She and George married in 1956 in Pittsburgh PA. After a short time in Atlanta GA, they moved to Pennington and then Hopewell NJ. They finally settled in Princeton NJ in 1967 where she lived until 2020. After George’s passing, she married Maturin L Delafield in 1982.
Louise loved spending time in the Adirondacks and Virgin Gorda. Later on in life, Louise returned to Maine spending some summers on Sebago Lake. The place where Louise was the happiest was on Nantucket with her grandchildren. She loved to sit outside in the sun, get ice cream and watch her grandchildren enjoy summers on the island. In her last years of life, Louise loved reading, daily phone calls from her youngest son, dining with friends at Gables, watching CNN, and visits from her grandchildren.
Louise is remembered by the Gables residents and staff as always laughing, making sarcastic comments, showing an interest in everyone’s lives, and being kind to all.
There will be a private remembrance with family this summer on Nantucket. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the American Lung Association
