Greater Somerset County YMCA invites the community to join in a series of special events in celebration of Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865.
Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom and resilience and renew our shared commitment to creating positive and lasting change.
Community Events Include:
- Unity Fitness Walk on June 18 at Somerset Hills YMCA
Celebrate Juneteenth through movement, reflection, and togetherness. This free community walk promotes health, unity, and progress. Led by trail leader Mason, this event is open to all. - Celebration of Culture, Music and Movement on June 19 at Somerset Hills YMCA
Join us for a vibrant celebration featuring music and movement that honors the spirit of Juneteenth. - Motown-Themed Spin Class on June 22 at Somerset Hills YMCA
Celebrate the legacy of Motown, the groundbreaking record label that shaped American music history and advanced creative opportunity. Ride along to hits by Diana Ross & The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and more while learning about Motown’s cultural impact. - Juneteenth Arts and Crafts on June 19 at Hillsborough YMCA
Children ages 3–18 are invited to participate in creative Juneteenth-themed arts & crafts activities. Free for members. - Juneteenth Arts and Crafts on June 19 at Princeton YMCA
Help create a powerful “Juneteenth Wall of Quotes” poster that features inspirational messages about freedom, resilience, and shared values that connect us all. Free and open to the community.
Juneteenth Activities in YMCA Before & After Care Programs: Our before and aftercare programs will incorporate Juneteenth activities including book readings, arts and crafts, and more to educate and inspire young minds.
