Gubernatorial hopefuls Mikie Sherill, a Democrat, and Jack Ciatterelli, a Republican, will face each other in the Nov. 4 general election.
Sherill defeated Sean Spiller, Steve Sweeney, Steven Fulop, Ras J. Baraka and Josh Gottheimer in the Democatic primary election on June 10, while Ciattarelli defeated Justin Barbera, Bill Spadea, Mario M. Kranjac and Jon Bramnick.
Sherril has been a member of Congress representing New Jersey since 2019. She was also a private practice lawyer who also worked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Ciattarelli lost the gubernatorial primary in 2017 and the general election to Gov. Phil Murphy in 2021, and was a member of the state assembly from 2011 to 2018. He was the assistant minority whip for five of those years.
STATE ASSEMBLY
In the 7th District representing towns in Burlington County, candidates in the primary ran for two assembly seats. Democratic incumbents Carol Murphy and Balvir Singh beat candidate Eric Holliday and will face Republicans Dione Johnson and Doug Dillon, who ran unopposed.
In the 14th District representing towns in Mercer and Middlesex counties, candidates ran unopposed for two seats in the state assembly. Democratic incumbents Wayne P. DeAngelo and Tennille R. McCoy will face Republicans Marty Flynn and Joseph A. Stillwell, who ran unopposed.
In the 15th District representing towns Hunterdon and Mercer counties, candidates ran unopposed for two seats in the state assembly, Democratic incumbents Verlina Reynolds-Jackson and Anthony S. Verrelli. No Republican candidates filed to run for the seats.
In the 16th District representing towns in Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset counties, candidates ran for two seats in the state assembly. Democratic candidates, incumbent Roy Freiman and incumbent Mitchelle Drulis, who are running on the party line, beat Mahmoud Desouky, who ran on Voters for Progress. Frieman and Drulis will face Republican candidates Scott Sipos and Catherine Payne, who ran unopposed.
In the 17th District representing towns in Middlesex and Somerset counties, candidates ran for two seats in the state assembly. Democratic incumbent Kevin Egan, who ran on the party line, and Loretta Rivers, who ran on Democrats for Change, will face Republican candidates Patricia Badovinac and Susan Hucko, who ran unopposed. Democratic incumbent Joe Danielsen lost his bid for re-election.
Mercer County Commissioners
Democratic incumbents Nina D. Melker and Cathleen M. Lewis will face Republican candidates Daniel J. Hanley, Jr. and Alexander DiFalco for the two commissioner seats.
Mercer County Clerk
Democratic incumbent Paula Sollami Covello will face Republican candidate Shaolin Brown for the one, five-year term.
Middlesex County Commissioners
Democratic incumbents Charles Kenny, Clary Azcona-Barber and Chanelle Scott McCullum will face Republican candidates Gary Hagopian, Anjaneyulu Karnati and Brian Wojaczyk for the three, three-year term seats.
Middlesex County Clerk
Democratic incumbent Nancy J. Pinkin will face Republican candidate Joseph Wolak for the one, five-year term seat.
Burlington County Commissioners
Democrat Allison Eckel will run for a full term on the Burlington County Commissioners against Republican Joe Abegg in November. Democrat Randy Brolo will face Nick Pawlyzyn for an unexpired term.
Burlington County Sheriff
Democrat James Kostoplis will face Republican Erik Johnston in the race for Burlington County sheriff.
Somerset County Commissioners
Democratic incumbent Melonie Marano will face Republican candidate Nick Cuozzo for a full-term seat.
Somerset County sheriff
Democratic incumbent Darrin Russon will face Republican candidate Michael Manochio.
Somerset County surrogate
Democratic incumbent Bernice “Tina” Jalloh will face Republican candidate John L. Sweeney.
