On Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 7:30 pm, Beth El Synagogue of East Windsor will be sponsoring a discussion on “Yehuda Amichai: Israel’s Favorite Poet” as a part of their Scholar in Residence weekend. Join as visiting scholar, Rabbi Elliot Goldberg, discusses selections of Amichai’s poetry from Open, Closed, Open that explore themes related to religion, faith, God and prayer.

Yehuda Amichai was part of a cadre of Israeli poets who wrote poems in plain everyday Hebrew instead of the high literary Hebrew used by his predecessors. His poems translate well into English and other languages and, during his lifetime, he developed an international following and became one of Israel’s great literary figures.
