The Bordentown Old City Hall (“OCH”) Restoration Committee (“Committee”) announced today the formation of a sub-committee composed of independent volunteers to pursue the vision of Old City Hall as the cultural beacon of Bordentown. As a cultural center, OCH would be a hallmark of the community that can provide a place for education, seasonal gatherings, lectures, activities, philanthropy, and everyday fun. The sub-committee is actively seeking volunteers to conceive the mission and values that will guide how this vision comes to fruition. The formation of the sub-committee is intended to empower individuals and groups to collaboratively assemble various activities, events, and happenings in/or involving Old City Hall. The first open meeting of the sub-committee will occur this month, following the upcoming OCH open house to welcome visitors, explore and learn about the building, and gather new sub-committee volunteers.

Old City Hall’s Restoration Committee Chairwoman Carol Hill declared, “After years of thoughtful planning and diligent restoration under the guidance of the Old City Hall Restoration Committee and the stewardship of the City, Old City Hall is ready to take on a bigger role.” Pre-Covid OCH was well known as the host to the widely popular Bordentown City Train Show around the holidays. More recently, the space has been a host to a handful of fascinating speakers on local history and niche topics of interest. Committee member Val Sassaman spearheads OCH Committee’s social media to discuss the efforts she has been hands on to assemble so far. “Bordentown is such an interesting place and a great small-town community. The intention now is for Old City Hall to serve as a platform to showcase all that’s local, and a venue to promote more global topics within the community.”

Initially, the sub-committee will be co-chaired by volunteers, Bordentown Township residents, Kristi Kantorski and Tim Rollender. “Bordentown has a creative energy and passion all its own. We look forward to working with the Committee and engaging with others in the community to host a wide variety of groups and present events that provide educational, recreational, cultural and civic services, creating something special,” noted Kantorski. “There was so much thoughtful care and deliberate attention put forward to restore Old City Hall – it’s inspiring and I think we’ll tap into those same qualities when our sub-committee works to partner or put on events or activities,” added Rollender.

The Old City Hall Restoration Committee volunteers will host an open house welcoming visitors to learn about Old City Hall and its importance in the “Little City with a Lot of Charm,” on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 11am to 3pm. All are welcome to stop by for a personal tour and ask questions about the building and the opportunity to join the new sub-committee. Lite snacks and refreshments will be served. The first meeting of the new sub-committee will be held two weeks later on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 2pm to 4pm. This is an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions, offer insights, and collaborate on the mission and values of the sub-committee. Thereafter, the sub-committee will meet at least monthly to plan and manage events and fundraising activities with volunteers and collaborative partner organizations. Those interested in joining the sub-committee meeting, or becoming a volunteer are welcome to attend. Any questions may be emailed to [email protected].

About the Old City Hall Restoration Committee

The Old City Hall Restoration Committee is a group of volunteers who came together to fundraise and restore Old City Hall to its graceful state and invite residents and visitors to come inside to enjoy its history. While members have changed over the years, everyone works hard and the work is never done. The Firehouse side of Old City Hall is still in need of much work as well as the Old City Hall side, so all help is more than welcome.  All contributions are of course appreciated, but most of all, residents and visitors are encouraged to visit and see the considerable accomplishments that this small group has achieved.
